trip to Prague 2013

After finishing my master thesis in the beginning of 2013, I’ve rewarded myself with a short trip to Prague (as it’s so easy to get there by train from Berlin) together with my boyfriend. The weather forecast did show some snow for the weekend but sadly the weather was more like snow-rain and pretty much grey the whole time. Nevertheless all the old buildings in Prague are quite beautiful and it reminded me a little bit of Vienna but not as strict and with more colors.

Our hotel was situated in the old town and when I saw the astronomical clock outside of the old city hall I’ve recognized that I had seen this clock before during a research project on the topic of digital installations. In 2010 they did a light show on the face of the tower clock for the 600th anniversary of the construction which looked quite impressive.

We also visited some small museums like the “Museum of Medieval Torture” and a historical toy exhibition within the Prague Castle. I especially liked that they had long opening hours and we could visit some of them also in the later evening.

I’ve started to experiment with different apps and filters during the trip to enhance my poor cellphone pics a little. On the one hand this seems like an awkward trend but on the other hand I really enjoy the simply created outcome sometimes. 👿

An impressive part of the Prague Castle complex is the St. Vitus Cathedral. With its Gothic architecture its the biggest church in the country. From the Castle complex we walked over to the Petřín hill and visited the lookout tower and the wooden St. Michael Church, which was transferred in the 1920s from the Ukraine to Prague and is quite small and beautiful. Sadly one can just look at it from the outside.

Next to the lookout tower is a funny mirror cabinet on the hill. We spend quite some time there taking pictures of ourselves with multiple reflections and in funny shapes. 😮

The famous Charles Bridge was quite peaceful as we visited and we also managed to drink a beer in the most famous pub U Fleků. Nevertheless I need to come back to Prague, probably during better weather conditions, as we missed to visit the zoo during our short trip and that’s always an important part to me. 😮
